Back in April when we gave Darcy the job, he said he would begin at the end of June. Sure enough, on June 23 we received a call from him saying he would be able to start on June 25. He was at our house that day at 8:30 a.m. as promised.

Darcy was there every day, all day. When he had to leave to pick up topsoil or plants or river rock, the two young men he had working with him continued to work quietly and efficiently.

Darcy asked me many questions throughout the process to make sure his vision for the project was also my vision. When I had questions or wanted to make changes, he advised me accordingly. He is very knowledgeable.

As my husband says, “Anything they destroyed, they fixed.” For instance, they had to remove some of my back fence to get the backhoe into the yard. Tthe gate didn’t close properly before but now, after Darcy and his men put the fence back together, the gate works better than ever! They spent the extra time to make sure it was fixed properly. Awesome!

We were very impressed with the two young men Darcy had working with him. They worked hard in the hot sun and even chatted back and forth with Darcy offering opinions and sharing their own knowledge.

Every evening before they left, they spent a great deal of time sweeping the road in front of our house, tidying up the backyard and tidying up after they had lunch on the back deck. That was very important to me. Even the backhoe was parked in a nice tidy manner overnight. I loved it!

Darcy even remembered things that I had forgotten, thank goodness! Once when we were discussing the project, he went home that night and went through the emails he and I had exchanged early on in the design phase to verify things we had discussed.

Darcy shared his knowledge and expertise many times when I had questions. He was open to discussion and to making changes if they were appropriate for our particular project. Also, he wasn’t one to stand around and chat. He worked very hard and was very focused.

We found out about Cavan Hills Landscaping and the owner, Darcy Beck, several years ago.

We wanted to have the front entrance and the border of our driveway finished with interlocking brick. He prepared and reviewed a plan with us which resulted in a “one of a kind” look and feel. We decided to have the work done in two phases, one year apart. He didn’t try to talk us into the whole job at one time and the work went without a hitch, on time and on budget.

When it came time to do major landscaping of our backyard, we called Darcy. He suggested we use the services of a landscape architect colleague of his to develop the concept. It was very good advice and we liked the ideas they came up with. We received an estimate and scheduled a time for the work to begin.

The weather was not co-operative, but when it finally improved, Darcy prevailed. The job took longer than anticipated, but there were no increases in the estimate due to this.

After a year of maturing we are very happy with the result and would not hesitate to use Cavan Hills Landscaping again. In fact, we have already asked Darcy to drop by in 2013 to quote on some more work in our front yard.

Working with Darcy and his crew was an amazing experience. He came to our house and viewed our new deck and within minutes he came up with a design for a patio that was absolutely gorgeous and suited our space perfectly. We decided to have our flagstone porch and walkway redone as it was starting to crumble. We admired work Darcy had done for our neighbour and decided to call him to see what he might design for us. We were very pleased with the creative drawings that Darcy presented and hired him to begin the work in the fall of 2012. We love our tumbled stone driveway. Given what was there before (a mud hole in spring), Cavan Hills has done an outstanding job in leveling and producing a three car driveway in what was a 1.5 size before. And it’s LEVEL! The design is exceptional. We were uncertain how it could work given the original state of the area, but we now consider Darcy a stone artist. He suggested the overall design and curves – which were perfect for the lot and our old house and the existing elements. If we had to do it again I would let Darcy choose it all – design, stone, whatever he thinks. The crew was great and they were fast, and on budget.
